What is Pilates?

Pilates is a complete exercise system that will
strengthen, tone, and re-vitalize your body.

It is a full-body conditioning program that
strengthens muscles and increases flexibility. The
exercises are designed to engage the abdominals and
lower back muscles, which comprise the core or
“power center” of the body.

Pilates works both the deep and the superficial
muscles of the body, which helps develop the
muscles uniformly, rather than letting larger muscles
overpower smaller ones.

STOTT PILATES® is a method of Pilates that
incorporates modern exercise science, using bio-
mechanical principles of the body to effectively train
and develop the muscles.
STOTT PILATES® exercises
are designed with a rehabilitation focus to create
safe, optimal exercise for all body types.

In a typical Pilates class, proper form and alignment
are closely monitored. Specific attention is given to
the alignment of the hips, shoulders, feet, knees and
neck.

Pilates increases body awareness, coordination, and
control. Deep breathing increases concentration and
relaxation as well as aiding in the engagement of the
deep abdominal muscles.
